Pinal supervisors approve rezoning for guest ranch

FLORENCE — A seasonal guest ranch where visitors meet to ride their horses on state and federal lands east of Florence has received rezoning so that it can begin to come into compliance with county code.

The Pinal County Board of Supervisors approved rezoning on 73 acres for Ride Out Ranch from General Rural to RU-10 on May 24 by a vote of 3-2. Voting no were Kevin Cavanaugh, R-Coolidge, and board Chairman Jeff Serdy, R-Apache Junction.

Serdy said the plan looks good if the operators follow it. He said an employee should ride with ranch visitors “instead of just turning them loose. … you don’t know their background, you don’t know their training.”

Ted Robinson, who lives near the ranch, agreed. “You bring out a bunch of city slickers that don’t know what they’re doing, not supervised, you’re just asking for disaster.”
