Six months into Rio Verde Foothills residents’ water crisis, a second short-term solution is on its way to Gov. Katie Hobbs.
A bill, sponsored by Rep. Alexander Kolodin, R-Scottsdale, endeavors to create a new type of government entity — called a standpipe district — that could enter into agreements to help Rio Verde Foothills get water. The Legislature passed it as part of a two-day voting spree intended to address several high-stakes bills still on the table, including a transportation plan for the Phoenix metro area.
Kolodin said the bill is the product of “months and months and months” of work. He is confident it can address the water problems in Rio Verde Foothills, which Scottsdale cut off from the city’s water supply at the start of the year.
