Apartments planned at old hospital site in Mesa

A 180-unit apartment complex is to be constructed east of Mesa Drive and north of University Drive at the site of the former Mesa General Hospital, which closed in May 2008.

The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board on June 28 voted 5-0 on a consent agenda with other items to recommend that the city council approve rezoning six acres to multiple residence-4 with a planned area development overlay and a site plan review for the Mesa Drive Apartments. Absent were Vice Chair Benjamin Ayers and board member Genessee Montes.

The primary access to the apartment complex of studio, one- and two-bedroom units will be from North Mesa Drive, Planner Samantha Brannagan said at a study session prior to the meeting.
