A two year battle over the baseball and softball field lights at Chaparral High School has come after a local neighborhood took Scottsdale Unified School District to court.
Members of the Tierra Feliz North community and the Scottsdale Unified School District have reached a settlement agreement in Maricopa County Superior Court over the use of the lights that illuminate the school’s ball fields.
The Scottsdale Independent obtained the settlement agreement through a public records request to SUSD.
The agreement has several stipulations in it, including the district gets to use the lights at the baseball and softball fields 20 nights per year, including up to six Saturdays per year.
In return, the district agreed not to use the lights on Sundays. It agreed to start ballgames no later than 6:30 p.m., dim the lights 20-50% at the end of games and turn them off one hour after games.
