Supervisors OK television tax but want answers

Mohave County supervisors on Monday reluctantly approved setting a television district tax rate that goes to provide free television service.

District 2 Sup. Hildy Angius questioned if it was the government’s job to provide free television service. The Bullhead City supervisor also suggested putting the television district tax rate to the voters. She agreed to set the rate but directed staff to look into putting the tax on the ballot or else adjust the rate.

The supervisors voted to set the television district tax rate at $0.0867 per $100 assessed value of a home. The district’s assessed value in February was about $1.8 billion with an estimated levy of more than $1.5 million.
