Florence: How much growth can current water supplies support?

FLORENCE — The town’s annual water demand is a small fraction of its state groundwater allotment, giving it room to grow for decades, the Town Council was told Monday.

The council authorized an application for modified designation of assured water supply to the Arizona Department of Water Resources. The town currently holds a designation of assured supply from ADWR, which requires periodic updates and modifications.

Chris Salas, Public Works director and town engineer, said people ask why the town is approving new development “when we don’t have any water,” but in fact, “we have water that is available to us essentially for the next 60 years.”
