A museum exploring the history of big-league baseball in Arizona has been scratched from the lineup of a Mesa bond election.
But after another year in the developmental leagues, it probably will resurface next year with more detail and a broader mission than first envisioned.
Lisa Anderson, president of the Mesa Historical Museum, asked the city council Monday to remove the museum from a list of projects that voters will be asked to approve in November. The election will go forward with about $131 million in requests for street and public-safety projects.
Anderson made the request after meeting with City Manager Chris Brady and Mayor Scott Smith. Smith earlier had expressed doubts that the museum proposal was ready for the ballot, saying he had several major questions about the proposal.
“We have determined that there is tremendous potential to develop this project beyond the scope that we have presented to you thus far,” Anderson told the council. “There are new opportunities that have just come about even this week that we would like to explore further.”
