Supervisor: If transit tax fails, consider moving

By Ken Sain | Chandler Arizonan

Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jack Sellers said people ask him what’s Plan B, what will the county do if Prop. 479 does not pass in November’s election.

“Sell your house, move out of the county,” Sellers said at a May 3 Chandler Chamber of Commerce Policy Impact Series event. “And I may not be joking, it may be the reality.”

Prop. 479 is the extension of Prop. 400, which has funded transportation in Maricopa County since 1985 through a half-cent sales tax.

Sellers said the fastest-growing county in the U.S. will continue to grow, thanks to $90 billion in economic expansion in recent years. That includes the Intel expansion of its Ocotillo campus and TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) building a plant in North Phoenix.
