After several years of struggle, one of three originally proposed affordable housing projects is moving forward.
On Tuesday, the Flagstaff City Council approved a lease between the city and Housing Solutions of Northern Arizona for just under an acre of city-owned property at 2240 N. Izabel St.
Housing Solutions plans to construct a small apartment complex containing 11 three-bedroom units, as well as a leasing office. Both apartment buildings will be two stories in height.
“The idea of this development has been a long time coming,” Housing Solutions of Northern Arizona CEO Devonna McLaughlin said. “And it requires many partners to make this possible. We’re thankful to the city’s partnership in this project, as the first domino to fall for affordable housing is often land and site control. Without access to land, it is impossible to develop housing.”
McLaughlin told the Arizona Daily Sun that construction is expected to begin later this fall or early in the winter.
