COOLIDGE — Pinal County’s road and intersection improvements near Inland Port Arizona have been named a 2023 Project of the Year by the Arizona chapter of the American Public Works Association.

Officially titled “IPAZ-Hanna and Houser Roads, State Route 87 to Vail Road & SR 87 Intersection Improvements, Pinal County,” the project won in the $5 million to $25 million transportation category.

The Arizona APWA will formally recognize the project at a luncheon during its statewide conference Aug. 15 in Oro Valley. The project will go on to compete for a national award from APWA.

“Collaborative efforts and strong partnerships were crucial to the success of the IPAZ improvement project,” Pinal Public Works Deputy Director Celeste Garza said in a news release. “Working together with our partners, consultants and contractors allowed us to achieve significant improvements in infrastructure and safety for the benefit of our community.”
