PHOENIX (AZFamily) — One look at the big, tall structure going up in the backyard of a Phoenix home off 54th Street and Cactus Road, and you’ll see why neighbors are so upset.
On Thursday, the unhappy homeowners took their grievances to a city of Phoenix zoning officer and explained that the pool house and garage being built is an eyesore that’s impacting their property values.
They said it also violates city code by being significantly taller than the 15-foot maximum height that’s allowed.
The hearing officer agreed, denying the builder’s use permit and shutting the project down.
Neighbor Stephanie Jacques is relieved by the decision.
She felt her family’s privacy was being infringed upon.
“I think the hearing officer saw how this would negatively impact the neighborhood and how it intruded on the rights of other people’s properties,” said Jacques.
Arizona’s Family has learned that the 2002 original plans for the pool house called for it to be 13 feet tall and 867 square feet.
