Scottsdale’s current mayor is leading the primary election with less than 50% of the vote, and council candidates are locked in a tight race in preliminary results released Thursday.
Polls closed for Arizona’s primary election at 7 p.m. July 30.
The Maricopa County Recorder’s Office released the initial results shortly after 8 p.m. Results are unofficial at this point. An official, final tally isn’t expected for several days.
At stake are the mayor’s office and three city council seats. Some Scottsdale residents will also be asked to vote for two state representative and senator as part of the Legislative District 8 race as well.
The race for city seats are nonpartisan so outright winners are possible in the primary races.
There are three candidates in the mayor’s race: Lisa Borowsky, Linda Milhaven and David Ortega.
Initial results show Ortega in the lead with 41.96% of the ballots, or 19,869 votes.
Borowsky was in was in second with 36.58%, or 17,322 votes.
Milhaven was next with 21.38%, or 10,123 votes.
