An annexation process to bring about 460 acres into the city has begun as part of North Peoria Gateway, a wide expanse of land the city says will position itself as a potential future hub of advanced industries.
The proposed annexation is located at the southern part of the NPG, an area of about 1,600 acres of undeveloped land adjacent to the Vistancia commercial core planned for future residential communities, employment-oriented uses and commercial/retail centers.
Peoria’s Planning Director Chris Jacques said this is a highly anticipated and strategic annexation that is very important to the city’s economic and community development goals.
“It is also important to recognize it is challenged with a number of restraints that include wash corridors, the canal and overhead powerlines. However, we believe this annexation contributes to a larger effort to plan and entitle up to 1,620 acres as a cohesive planned community district, or PCD, known as the North Peoria Gateway,” he said.
