The La Paz County Board of Supervisors has approved a Conditional Use Permit for a solar energy project being developed in the area in eastern part of the county where other solar projects are being developed. At their Aug. 19 meeting, they approved a CUP for the Jove Solar Project.

Atlas Solar X LLC and Atlas Solar XI LLC wants to build a utility-scale solar generating plant on 3,495 acres administered by the Bureau of Land Management. Atlas Solar X LLC and Atlas Solar XI LLC are subsidiaries of 174 Power Global, company the county signed an agreement with in 2020 for solar power development on 5,900 acres of BLM land conveyed to the county in May 2020. 174 Power Global is owned by South Korean energy company Hanwha and Hanwha Energy USA Holdings.

The site is located south of Interstate 10 in eastern La Paz County, adjacent to the land the BLM conveyed to the county.

Atlas Solar X and XI have plans to build an 850-megawatt solar power generating facility on the former BLM land. The Jove Project, which will 600 megawatts, will be in addition to that facility.
