Chandler City Council Member Matt Orlando says folks keep trying to tell him softball is a dying sport.
“It’s crazy … everybody keeps telling me softball’s dying, softball’s dying, and it’s like, where? It’s not a dying sport.”
Chandler opened four new lighted sports fields at Tumbleweed Park for softball and baseball on Sept. 7, trying to keep up with the demand for the sport.
“It doesn’t meet the demand,” said John Sefton, the city’s Community Services director, who is in charge of parks. “I wish I could say that this one project is going to be … the answer to everything, but we know that the population continues to grow.”
