Lobbying firm opens doors for Maricopa, city leaders say

The city council’s option Tuesday to renew a contract with a Phoenix-based lobbying firm sparked a discussion about the need for having a group that fights for the city’s interests in Washington, D.C.

In a 4-1 decision, the council approved a year-long agreement with Nexxus Consulting, LLC, a group that has lobbyists for the city in both the nation’s capital and the state Legislature.

Councilman Leon Potter, who questioned the city’s investment and began the discussion, cast the dissenting vote. Vice Mayor Edward Farrell and Councilman Bridger Kimball were not present at the meeting.
