ARIZONA CITY — Construction of a Habitat for Humanity home is underway and family and volunteers met Saturday to commemorate their progress in a wall signing ceremony.
Leo and Silvia, who requested only their first names be used, along with their teenage son had been living in an apartment in Phoenix but needed to find a new place to live. On top of high rent, their apartment had only one working bathroom, only street parking, mold and air conditioning that couldn’t keep up with Phoenix summers. After applying for and selecting a new home being built on Mystery Drive in Arizona City, they were selected.
On Saturday, Leo and Silvia helped continue the progress on their future home. Dusty Parsons, chief marketing officer for Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona, said construction has been underway for a few weeks now. The roof trusses and framing are in place, which means it was time for the wall signing ceremony.
