Rezoning of state land will allow San Tan Valley to grow in ‘a responsible way,’ says Jordan Rose, founder and president of Rose Law Group

FLORENCE — A blueprint for developing the heart of San Tan Valley was approved last week by the Pinal County Board of Supervisors.

The board voted on Feb. 19 to create the “San Tan Urban Core” on 3,238 acres of state land east of Hunt Highway. This new special district is the result of a joint planning effort between Pinal County and the State Land Department. It will be mostly residential with an estimated 18,697 units, plus some other areas for employment and retail.

“As the board is well aware, it’ll take decades to develop thousands of acres,” Harvey Krauss, a Pinal County planning manager, told the board. “…Land uses change, market conditions change, tastes in housing change,” and developers need flexibility, Krauss said.

“This is great as it allows San Tan to grow in a responsible well-planned way well into the future! It is good to see commercial property in a size and location that works as there are so many small piecemeal properties zoned commercial in that area that will never be commercially viable for the use. Congratulations to Supervisor Goodman on his leadership in getting this done!” -Jordan Rose, Founder & President of Rose Law Group
