Casa Grande Dispatch
Attendance at a meeting of the groundwater advisory committee for this area Thursday again showed the importance of a pending rule change and the difficulty of alternatives. The Groundwater Users Advisory Council did the right thing in deciding to name a subcommittee to look at the problem. Also, the first meeting of a landowners’ advocacy group will be Wednesday.
With new awareness of the impact, farmers are concerned about the change, which, although allowing them to continue farming, would reduce the future value of their land year by year, creating pressure to sell. The reason for the rule is to preserve the area water supply for future generations. Perhaps a better solution can be found, and that certainly would be worth the effort.
