The city Planning and Zoning Commission approved a 117-room extended-stay hotel known as Everhome Suites at Colorado and Ninth streets despite staunch opposition from nearby residents.
There were extraordinary scenes on Thursday evening after commissioners voted 4-3 in favor of a major site plan. People loudly yelled “shame on you” and “you guys don’t care about your residents or property at all” to commissioners as they slowly filed out of the council chambers at City Hall.
Yuma applicant Dahl, Robins & Associates, on behalf of Speckert Gift Trust and Bob Speckert of Las Vegas, was granted approval to build a three-story, 57,821-square-foot hotel on about 3 acres.
