Value of Cavalliere estate up for sale in north Scottsdale disputed

Efforts to settle the estate of George “Doc” Cavalliere, owner of Reata Pass Steakhouse and Greasewood Flat, stalled in court last week as representatives of his trust and family members disputed the value of the 43-acre property in north Scottsdale. A court hearing Wednesday was scheduled in hopes of resolving the estate, created upon Cavalliere’s death in 2009.

The estate owes more than $1 million in taxes and an estimated $1.5 million to pay off a 2011 loan, as well as other obligations. Roger Curley, an attorney representing the Cavalliere trust, said the land has been on the market for several years. Trustees recently signed a contract with Jacor Partners, a real-estate investment trust, to sell the land for $5 million. The income from a sale would pay the debts, with the remainder going to family members.
