The former Metrocenter Mall site in north Phoenix is taking shape after the demolition and asbestos abatement was completed recently, according to the developer.
The project is part of an $850 million redevelopment and revitalization project at the former mall with Concord Wilshire that looks to transform the area into 150,000 square feet of walkable retail space among room for restaurants, bars and small shops — similar to Kierland Commons in Scottsdale, said Steve Betts, senior development director on the project.
“We need that retail cluster as an amenity,” Betts said. “…We want this to feel like an urban village.”
One impressive amenity is expected to include a rooftop swimming pool, restaurant and pickleball courts on top of a parking garage. Some portions of that space will be open to the public and some will be exclusively for residents of nearby housing units, according to Betts.
In November 2022, the Phoenix City Council approved an $850 million redevelopment and revitalization project at the former mall with Concord Wilshire Capital and TLG Investment Partnership with CDS Internationals Holdings Inc., according to a press release.
