A five-story county office building may be an unexpected sight at the edge of a downtown historic district, but its time has come and the town is ready for it, a small open house gathering was told.

“We have a golden opportunity to join together and create something very special: an important, multistory, modern new build while paying homage to our past,” Vice Mayor Cathy Adam said. “On behalf of our mayor, Keith Eaton, who is out of town, we are very excited to be part of this growth.”

The 15 or so citizens attending the open house at the Florence Community Center on July 15 saw preliminary renderings of the massive new Pinal County office building planned on Butte Avenue. “One of my goals was to make sure we put it closer to Butte (Avenue), but not take away from the 1891 (courthouse),” Deputy Pinal County Manager Himanshu Patel said.
