COOLIDGE — Mayor Jon Thompson and the City Council approved a construction contract for the Apron and Taxiway C Construction Project and received a general update on the status of the efforts to expand and improve Coolidge Municipal Airport during a meeting last week.
J. Banicki Construction is to complete the project following environmental assessments and securing grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration, which was announced earlier this year. The project has been in the works for about three years now.
The total cost of the construction is $2,126,887 but a majority of that will be paid through various grants that Developmental Services Director James Myers has pursued aggressively. Some of that funding came from grants meant for other airports that could not secure the funding for themselves, according to Thompson.
