COOLIDGE — The Planning and Zoning Commission once again approved a dual-branded Marriott Fairfield Inn and TownPlace Suites planned for North Gateway Manor, three years after the project was initially approved in that same spot.
During its Nov. 5 meeting, the commission approved the hotel after a brief overview of the site plan and a handful of questions.
Three years ago, the site plan for the four-story, 67,200-square-foot Marriott was approved in the same space, across from Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, which the city hoped would encourage visitors to stay in Coolidge rather than leaving for Florence or Casa Grande.
However, within the past year Coolidge has approved a Taco Bell very close to the proposed site of the Marriott. Between that and the developers allowing the original site plan to expire, a new site plan was needed to detail how engineers would work around the changes.
