Nearly a full, roller-coaster year after receiving zoning approval from the city of Scottsdale for its massive headquarters project, Taser maker Axon Enterprise Inc. has secured a compromise with the city that paves the way for the project to move forward.
A divided Scottsdale City Council agreed across multiple 4-3 votes on Nov. 17 to a compromise that will allow 1,200 housing units on the headquarters site — down more than 600 from the original plan — while approving a temporary, private permitting process intended to streamline the project and defend it from potential obstruction. Council also repealed its own zoning approval from November 2024 and, in essence, abandoned its interest in a lawsuit filed by an outside group challenging a state law that circumvented the city’s zoning approval.
