Arizona Public Service is temporarily halting plans for more than $550 million in investments to secure its power supply after energy regulators opened up the possibility of competition in electric service.
APS, which delivers power to more than 1.1 million customers, has told the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it is delaying plans to buy two generating units at the Four Corners Power Plant after the Arizona Corporation Commission formally asked the public to weigh in on the pros and cons of electric deregulation.
APS and a handful of public utility companies generate and deliver electricity to homes and industries under a system of regulated monopoly, where the rates are set by the Arizona Corporation Commission.
