There is symmetry in Taylor Burke’s inclusion on the Advisory Panel on Pro Hockey in Arizona, the group working to bring the NHL back to the Valley. Richard Burke, Taylor’s father, was the man who brought the Coyotes to Arizona from Winnipeg in 1996. Taylor was the franchise’s assistant GM from 1995 to 2001.
It was difficult for the Burkes to watch what ensued after they sold the team in 2001, but they made a point of staying out of the fray as ownership group after ownership group failed to bring stability to the franchise before it finally relocated to Salt Lake City in 2024.
“When we exited in 2001, other people made a sizable investment, so it becomes their business,” Burke said. “You can’t sell a family business and then backseat quarterback someone else’s decisions, or speak publicly.
