Gilbert to tighten data center regs

Gilbert planning officials are moving to update the town’s regulations on construction of data centers, riding the rising national tide to control the ravenous facilities.

The town Planning Commission last week took the first steps toward beefing up rules and regulations for building data centers, which notoriously consume huge amounts of water and electricity.

During the commission meeting last week, town planner Sal DiSanto said that staff is proposing a text amendment to Gilbert’s Land Development Code (LDC) regarding data centers that will add new standards and procedures.
