A Republican proposal to prohibit Arizona counties from regulating small nuclear reactors that are co-located with large energy users like data centers cleared its first hurdle this week.
The measure would bar the state’s 15 counties from regulating the technology if it is co-located with “an extra high load factor customer.” House Bill 2456 is an expanded version of a bill that Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed last year that would have allowed the reactors in rural counties without regulatory oversight.
