The Republican candidates vying to replace U.S. Rep. David Schweikert in Congressional District 1 made a TV appearance Tuesday to make their initial appeals to GOP primary voters.
CD1 Republican candidates Jay Feely and John Trobough participated in the Arizona PBS “Candidates in Conversation” event Tuesday to share their policy views. According to Arizona PBS, former state Rep. Joe Chaplik was scheduled to attend but decided not to participate.
The event was never intended to be a traditional debate, but Feely and Trobough almost immediately moved to trading verbal barbs just a few minutes into the conversation.
The two candidates primarily diverged on two issues — President Donald Trump’s tariffs and the war with Iran. Feely, who is endorsed by Trump, said the world is better off after the country’s involvement with the Iran War.
“President Trump deserves a lot of credit for doing something that he knew in the short term was going to be a negative for his ability to win in the midterms,” Feely said.
