The county supervisors are continuing their support of Arizona’s efforts to take control of federal lands.
Before Monday’s board meeting, District 4 Sup. Joy Brotherton of Kingman said she and District 2 Sup. Hildy Angius of Bullhead City recently attended a National Association of Counties meeting in Fort Worth, Texas. One issue that was brought up was the proposed efforts to transfer federal lands back to the states, which was promised when Arizona became a state in 1912.
Brotherton argued that the Bureau of Land Management is not friendly and does not cooperate with cattle ranchers, including dictating how many cattle a rancher can have. She added that the federal government does not manage its lands well.
The Kingman Republican also said the state could sell off some of that land with property taxes going back to the county for schools. The county currently does not receive property taxes on federal lands.
