After weeks of behind-the-scenes negotiations, state lawmakers appear to be aiming for a passable budget this week.
The House and the Senate will return Tuesday, presumably to discuss the budget, along with dozens of bills and proposed ballot measures still awaiting a vote.
If the Legislature does pass a budget and clear the remaining bills, it’s likely that lawmakers will sine dine, or end session for the year, within a week or two — or even sooner.
Here are five things to watch at the Capitol this week:
House expected to tackle the budget this week
It’s budget week, and lawmakers will once again attempt to reach a budget deal when both chambers convene on Tuesday. A House GOP spokesman confirmed House lawmakers would work on the budget when they returned from their week-long recess. The House is scheduled to meet Tuesday through Friday, which would give lawmakers just enough time to send a budget to Gov. Katie Hobbs before their trip to Washington D.C. next week.
