President Donald Trump seems reluctant to fully wade into Arizona’s down-ballot statewide Republican primary contests, issuing yet another quasi-endorsement Monday morning.
Trump reposted an Arizona Police Association endorsement of secretary of state candidate Gina Swoboda on his Truth Social account, which Swoboda then reposted herself with a caption thanking the president. Swoboda got Trump’s full-throated backing in her 2024 bid for chair of the Republican Party of Arizona, but it appears she won’t get the same treatment this time around.
Swoboda also got Trump’s blessing when she launched a bid in late 2025 for the Congressional District 1 seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. David Schweikert, but she pivoted to run for secretary of state in February.
The former Arizona GOP chair is hoping to beat out Rep. Alex Kolodin to be the state’s top election official, but Kolodin has the backing of Turning Point Action, the Arizona Freedom Caucus and other right-wing groups.
