Buckeye leaders approved a series of land use actions that city officials say will strengthen the State Route 85 employment corridor, expand opportunities for industrial and commercial development and position nearly 2,000 acres for future economic growth.
The Buckeye City Council unanimously approved four related requests July 7 involving annexation, a General Plan amendment and two Community Master Plan amendments affecting the Westpark and Silver Rock developments. The actions include annexing nearly 50 acres into the city, expanding the Westpark Community Master Plan and shifting hundreds of acres from residential planning to employment-focused development.
“Tonight, there are ambitious items related to Westpark and Silver Rock,” Galica said. “First being an annexation, second component being a minor general plan amendment and then two separate major community master plan amendments.”
The first action annexes approximately 49.6 acres about 1,350 feet south of Lower Buckeye Road and 269th Avenue. The property, currently zoned Rural-43 in Maricopa County, will initially receive Buckeye’s comparable rural zoning before ultimately becoming part of the expanded Westpark Community Master Plan.
