The Yuma County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday reviewed a proposed text amendment to the Yuma County 2030 Comprehensive Plan that would add aggregate sources to the Land Use element.
Senior Planner Javier Barraza delivered the presentation, stating the update is needed to comply with state law. Counties with more than 125,000 residents must identify and map aggregate resources – including sand, gravel and rock – in their long‑range land‑use plans.
Aggregate materials are essential for construction and infrastructure, and state law requires counties to identify and preserve these resources to support future development.
Barraza said the amendment would add a new map of active aggregate mines, updated GIS layers and a glossary definition.
“The intent of these text amendments is to address aggregate sources in the land use element as currently we don’t have anything for aggregate sources in the land use element,” he told the board.
