Options laid out for McCartney Rd. extension into Coolidge

A study into the possible extension of McCartney Road further into Coolidge has brought forth numerous options that would affect numerous residences on the eastern side of town.

The study was conducted by Wilson & Associates, and was funded by the Arizona Department of Transportation as a part of the Planning Assistance for Rural Areas (PARA) Program. The City of Coolidge sought out the PARA grant after completing its comprehensive transportation plan in 2012.

The transportation plan identified McCartney is a main arterial road, potentially six lanes wide, should the city grow enough in the coming years to warrant the construction of major parkways. Therefore, planning on how to extend the road is intended to make the process easier should such a step become necessary.

Jim Townsend of Wilson & Associates hosted an open house and study session before the Aug. 12 city council meeting to inform local residents about the impact these studies say the extension would have.
