Planned water committee still needs members

Tasked with finding potential alternatives to a controversial Arizona Department of Water Resources plan, a new 15-member water users group could begin work within a few weeks.

“Our goal is to get this accomplished with as much speed as possible,” District 8 state Rep. T.J. Shope told the Casa Grande Dispatch.

Shope and Rep. Frank Pratt intend to start meeting with water stakeholders as early as next week to select members for a new committee.

Once members of the panel have been selected, public meetings are scheduled to examine the state’s plan to gradually phase out extinguishment credits.
