Phoenix council candidates face runoff election in districts 4, 8

It’s almost official: Residents in District 4 in central Phoenix and District 8 in south Phoenix will get another chance to vote for their City Council representative on Nov. 5.

The city released final election results Friday afternoon, but the City Council must still canvass the results.

To win the primary, a candidate had to receive 50 percent of the votes, plus one.

Justin Johnson will face off against Laura Pastor in District 4; and Kate Gallego will compete against Warren Stewart in District. 8.

The city counted 78,547 ballots, and 95 percent of those were early ballots. The voter turnout was 23.43 percent.
