Town Manager Charles Montoya told a crowd of more than 200 people in the Anthem K-8 gym that Florence isn’t trying to annex them because it needs the money.
“We don’t, we’re financially sound,” he said. “But we have a lot to offer you, and you have a lot to offer us. That’s why we’re here.”
The Town Council held public hearings Monday night on two annexations that — if the majority of residents agree to them — will increase the town limits by almost six square miles and add more than 4,200 residents to the local population. The council and other town officials listened to — and answered questions from — residents of Magic Ranch, Crestfield Manor and Wildhorse Estates for three hours.
Both pro and con speakers received applause, indicating the crowd was more or less evenly divided on the issue of whether they should become part of Florence.
