Social media isn’t social at all

Rose Law Group Gripe of the Week

A group of teenage girls with iPhones is riding in a car. They are “communicating,” but not talking.
They are all on Facebook, sending messages to each other.

A woman calls a school that trains high school students to become dog groomers. She asks to get an appointment for Fido.

She is told someone would call her back in two weeks to schedule a grooming session.

Two weeks?

The woman at the school explained it was bringing in a new class of students, and the would-be groomers would have to first be taught how to talk on the phone. True story.

WHAT?

An element of the social media crowd texts instead of talking. Young people talk via Facebook, Twitter and other social media.

What happens when they must take a speech class. What happens when they have to have an interview for a job?

Will vocal cords become vestigial in a generation or two?

2 much of a #goodthing is 2 much of a #goodthing b/c #socialmedia can b a crutch to avoid #face2face disc. @roselawgroup.com
