I have history-minded friends who think neither Cave Creek nor Scottsdale deserves the title of “The “West’s Most Western Town. They mention Wickenburg, Prescott, Tombstone, Bisbee, and even Tucson as more worthy contenders.
Still, of all the towns in Arizona, our family chose Cave Creek back in 1986 because it has a very strong Western feel. But let me clarify that: When I say a Western feel I mean, wide open spaces, dirt roads and if you scratch the surface of the average resident, you just might find a little bit of outlaw lurking there.
In those days Cave Creek had plenty of miners, drug dealers, and bra-less hippie chicks who kept chickens in their houses. You know, that kind of Western.
Now I could talk all day about the Western virtues of my adopted town but let’s turn our attention to that Beast to the south.
