A San Tan Valley water utility company has filed a complaint with the Superior Court of Arizona alleging defamation of character against one of its customers.
The plaintiffs, Johnson Utilities LLC and its owner, George Johnson, claim San Tan Valley resident Emily Hughes has “repeatedly expressed extreme hostility” and harassed them, according to case No. CV201302426 filed Oct. 3 with the Superior Court of Arizona in Pinal County.
The complaint also alleges the defendant, Ms. Hughes, “has taken every opportunity to disparage and harm (Johnson Utilities’ and Mr. Johnson’s) interests and has engaged in a ceaseless vendetta” against them.
The plaintiffs are asking for a judgment against the defendant that includes compensatory out-of-pocket damages which Johnson Utilities estimates will exceed $100,000, according to the complaint. They also are asking for compensatory damages to the plaintiffs’ reputations, nominal and punitive damages and reasonable attorneys’ fees, among other costs, all of which would be proven at trial, according to the complaint.
