New apartments add to downtown Tucson’s ‘urban village’

Tucsonans seeking urban living now have more options.

Herbert Residential will open its doors this weekend for new and prospective tenants.

The eight-story 144-unit building will host a grand-opening ribbon-cutting event from 4 to 7 tonight at 202 E. 12th St. Activities include tastings of beer from Barrio Brewing and Thunder Canyon Brewery, food and music.

The all-concrete property was formerly an apartment complex for low-income seniors. Seniors who lived at the old Armory Park Apartments were relocated in July 2012 after investors built a new complex west of Interstate 10 along Congress Street.
