The city of Casa Grande is looking for a director to spearhead the newly created Sun Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization.
The city is the fiscal agent for the organization and the clearinghouse for the funding that pays for the organization’s operations, said Benjamin Bitter, senior management analyst for Casa Grande.
“Then (the city) is reimbursed for all expenses by the federal government,” Bitter said.
MPOs are federally mandated and federally funded transportation policy-
making organizations for larger cities. Casa Grande became an “urbanized area” of more than 50,000 population last year and was required to form an MPO as a result. In the past, transportation planning was done by Central Arizona Governments, formerly Central
Arizona Association of Governments. Members of the new agency include Casa Grande as well as Eloy, Coolidge, Pinal County and the Arizona Department of Transportation.
