Solar businesses are urging the Georgia Public Service Commission to oppose a new solar tax proposal from utility Georgia Power Co., according to the Georgia Solar Energy Industries Association (GASEIA).
GASEIA says Georgia Power has petitioned the commission to impose a new charge on customers who install and use solar energy systems at their homes, businesses and farms. The trade association reports that this proposed charge would amount to a 45% to 55% tax on solar energy systems.
Georgia Power proposed the solar tax as part of an ongoing rate case, and the commission is expected to issue a decision by Dec.17, GASEIA notes.
