Walmart brings its largest solar power system to Buckeye

Walmart is flipping the switch today on what the company says will be its largest solar power system.

The system, covering about 1 million square feet, is on a warehouse at the company’s distribution center in Buckeye.

The move is part of Walmart’s effort to be more sustainable. The company was named as the top corporate user of solar on the commercial level by the Solar Energy Industries Association and Vote Solar earlier this week.

The company said the new system would be capable of producing 5.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and be capable of powering about 30 percent of the facility. The 3.3-megawatt system is larger than the 2 megawatt system it installed last year in Casa Grande.

Interestingly, that Casa Grande system was not among those listed by SEIA and Vote Solar in Arizona.

That study culled information from public sources and other resources to arrive at the top 20 solar list.
