The city of Casa Grande has received 19 applications for the Sun Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization director position, Mayor Bob Jackson told the City Council Monday.
“I was looking through them earlier today,” Jackson told the council. “We’ve got some really good applicants.”
The Sun Corridor director will take the helm of the newly organized MPO to coordinate regional transportation activities and long- range transportation programs. MPOs are localized transportation planning organizations required for urban areas of at least 50,000 people.
Casa Grande hit that threshold in 2012 and formed the Sun Corridor MPO.
Neighboring communities are eligible to join an MPO and Eloy, Coolidge and Pinal County joined Casa Grande and the Arizona Department of Transportation as members.
Casa Grande serves as the MPO’s fiscal agent and is the clearinghouse for the funding that pays for the organization’s operations.
