PHOENIX – Coyotes Captain Shane Doan has signed a four-year deal worth $21.2 million with a $2 million signing bonus, according to a release from the team.
Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney on Friday confirmed that the Coyotes have re-signed their team captain. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are thrilled to sign Shane to a long-term contract,” said Maloney. “Shane is our captain and the heart and soul of our franchise. He is the consummate professional and one of the best leaders in the NHL.”
The 35-year-old has spent his entire 16-year career with the franchise, and ultimately decided that Phoenix is the best fit for him and his family.
Meanwhile, the league and the player association are still a long way apart on a new collective bargaining agreement, and a lock-out could be called by the owners as soon as Sunday.
Add that to the fact that the Coyotes still don’t have an owner in place, and this could be an interesting decision by Doan.
