No beer-guzzling pig is going to stop this train.
Namely, the pig that has starred since 1965 on the neon sign for a west Mesa bar.
And namely, the train — or rather, trains — that will run on new tracks between Mesa’s Mormon temple and Gilbert Road beginning in summer 2018.
The sign in front of the Hambone Sports Bar and Grill was among the hundreds of environmental and historical factors weighed by the federal government before it decided that the rail project can move forward.
The federal decision, announced last week by Valley Metro, is called a “Finding of No Significant Impact.” Federal officials have an acronym for that, and if FONSI evokes memories of a 1970s TV character, it also portends happy days for light-rail fans.
